A Case Report of a Rare Form of VACTERL Association

Abstract

VACTERL association is an acronym describing a series of abnormal clinical characteristics that occur together. The abnormalities are vertebral defect (V), anal atresia (A), cardiac defect (C), tracheoesophageal fistula (TE), renal anomalies (R) and limb defect (L). VACTERL association with hydrocephalus, known as VACTERL-H, carry poor prognosis compared to classical VACTERL. We reported a rare case of VACTERL-H with tracheal bronchus, a rare tracheobronchial airway anomaly complicated with recurrent pneumonia and bronchiolitis obliterans. This case highlights the importance of diagnosing tracheobronchial pulmonary anomalies as they contribute to recurrent pneumonia and atelectasis.
