Severity of Eczema and Quality of Life among Caregivers with Eczema Children in Puncak Alam, Selangor

Eczema is the most prevalent chronic inflammatory dermatosis. It has a substantial negative impact on both the quality of life and the health of both children and their families. This study was done to determine the severity of eczema and the quality of life among caregivers with eczema children in Puncak Alam. This study adopts a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 295 caregivers with eczema children involve in this study. The instruments used are Patient-Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM) and Dermatitis Family Impact (DFI). The severity of eczema among children in Puncak Alam showed that 42.8% experienced moderate symptoms. Caregivers reported have significant impacts on their quality of life, with 51.7% experiencing disturbed sleep and 36.7% facing emotional distress. Statistical analyses highlighted associations between eczema severity and sociodemographic factors, including family income and allergy status (p < 0.05). These findings highlight the importance of focused interventions that support both children with eczema and their caregivers, highlighting the significance of comprehensive care approaches.
