CABARAN KELUARGA DALAM MEMBANTU PEMULIHAN PENAGIH OPIAT
Abstract
Recovering addiction through rehabilitation is a time consuming process if it does not cost a life time. It does not only require for the addicts’ self-motivation, but also demands for their family’s support as an external assistance. Family support is thus defined as family-given assistance through a special interaction by which the addicts are able to manage their stress. Nevertheless, the families admit that they stumbled across many challenges while helping a recovering addict. This paper aims to look at the challenges that the family faces while helping the addict among them to follow recovery process. Data collection is made possible through a Focus Group Discussion with 10 families who reside in Terengganu. The collected data were analysed using descriptive analysis and NVIVO. The study discovers six challenges faced by the family as they help their addict member. These challenges may result from within the family itself, or the addict or the surrounding. The predicament that the family encounter is another challenge to our effort to help the addicts to end their addiction.

Pemulihan dadah termasuk opiat merupakan satu proses yang memerlukan tempoh yang lama mahupun sepanjang hayat. Pemulihan ini tidak hanya memerlukan motivasi diri penagih malah sokongan keluarga juga diperlukan sebagai bantuan luaran. Sokongan keluarga ditakrifkan sebagai bantuan yang diberikan oleh keluarga menerusi interaksi, khusus untuk membantu penagih mengurus stres dalam kehidupan. Kertas kerja ini bertujuan melihat cabaran yang perlu dihadapi oleh keluarga dalam membantu penagih dalam kalangan ahli keluarga mengikuti proses pemulihan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menerusi temu bual berkumpulan (Focus Group Discussion) melibatkan 10 buah keluarga di Terengganu dan data dianalisis secara deskriptif menggunakan perisian NVIVO. Enam cabaran yang dihadapi oleh keluarga sepanjang membantu penagih sama ada dalam kalangan keluarga sendiri, diri penagih, mahupun persekitaran luar. Kesukaran yang dihadapi oleh keluarga menjadi cabaran kepada kesungguhan usaha membantu penagih untuk meninggalkan ketagihan.
