Tahfiz Model Ulul Albab (TMUA) has been positioned in Malaysia as an integrated education model that combines Qur’anic memorisation with broader academic formation, often framed through Quranic, encyclopedic, and ijtihadic elements. However, empirical and conceptual discussions on how these elements are operationalised, evaluated, and governed remain fragmented across disciplines and publication outlets, limiting a consolidated understanding of TMUA as a coherent integrated model. This systematic literature review synthesises the available evidence to clarify dominant research directions, implementation concerns, and methodological approaches in TMUA-related scholarship. The review applied the PRISMA protocol and searched two databases, Web of Science and Scopus, using advanced keyword combinations centred on Tahfiz Model Ulul Albab, Quranic, encyclopedic and ijtihad-related terms. Following identification, screening, and eligibility assessment, 34 primary studies were included for analysis (n = 34). The included studies were analysed through thematic synthesis, resulting in three overarching themes: (1) Tahfiz Pedagogy and Learning Outcomes which concentrates on instructional strategies, learner development and measurable outcomes; (2) Implementing and Governing Integrated Tahfiz Education which addresses curriculum delivery, institutional management, policy dimensions and sustainability-related concerns; and (3) Quranic Scholarship and Contemporary Interpretive Methodologies which reflects the role of ijtihad, linguistic and hermeneutic approaches, knowledge integration and digital transformation in shaping contemporary Qur’anic engagement. Overall, the findings indicate that TMUA research is expanding but remains uneven across themes, with stronger attention to classroom-level practices than to governance mechanisms and integrative epistemological foundations. This review consolidates the current knowledge base, offers a thematic map for future inquiry and supports evidence-informed development of TMUA as an integrated education model aligned with contemporary educational demands.
