Abstract

The development of information and communication technology has brought about a great change in communication patterns in society. In addition to the positive culture, these advances have also led to a negative culture in society. For example, the troll culture is increasingly becoming the current medium of communication with a variety of objectives, among others, insulting and dropping a person's reputation or just a matter of humor and jokes. In this regard, this study will discuss the Islamic ruling perspective on trolls. To achieve this objective, this qualitative study uses a full library approach by referring to the literature relating to trolls and Muslim-scholars discussions. The collected data analyzed its content with a deductive approach to formulate the Islamic ruling perspective on the culture of troll. The study finds that troll culture is prohibited by Islam because it involves human dignity, while protecting human dignity is part of the objective of Shari'ah. Therefore, this culture should not be a healthy medium of communication within the community.
