This study explores the relationship between Islamic education and students’ moral behaviour, focusing on five key virtues: justice(ʿAdl), striving for moral and spiritual excellence (Ihsan), chastity (ʿIffah), forbearance (Ḥilm), and humility (Tawāḍuʿ). The data were obtained through a structured questionnaire administered to Muslim students in eighteen secondary schools across Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States in Nigeria. The analysis revealed that a higher level of general Islamic knowledge significantly predicts stronger moral behaviour among students. Among the four specific components of Islamic knowledge, Qur’an memorization, understanding of Qur’anic meanings, Hadith knowledge, and knowledge of other Islamic texts, only Hadith knowledge demonstrated a consistently significant positive relationship with the overall morality score as well as with its five subscales. The finding suggests that Hadith education plays a particularly vital role in shaping students’ moral character, highlighting its importance in Islamic moral development and its potential implications for curriculum design in faith-based education.
