Abstract

In the digital age, integrating technology into language learning has become essential, especially in enhancing students’ listening comprehension. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using video as a learning medium to improve listening skills and to explore students’ perceptions of its use in listening classes at SMAN 1 Jatinangor. A mixed-method design was employed, combining quantitative data from pre-test and post-test scores with qualitative data from student questionnaires. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ listening comprehension after being taught using video media. The N-Gain score in the experimental class reached 0.6308 (63.07%), indicating a moderate to high level of learning improvement. Based on Independent T-Test, it’s confirmed that students who learned with video outperformed those who used conventional methods. Meanwhile the questionnaire results also reveal a highly positive perception of video use. Students reported that video increased their motivation, enriched vocabulary, provided authentic listening materials, and made learning more enjoyable. The highest mean score (4.47) appeared in students’ willingness to continue using video in class. However, some challenges were noted, such as difficulties in understanding native speakers’ accents and speech speed. This study concludes that video is not only an effective tool for improving listening comprehension but also promotes a more engaging and motivating learning experience. It highlights the importance of using relevant, appropriately timed video content, and calls for teachers to consider students’ feedback and potential obstacles when designing video-based lessons
