Abstract

This study discusses translation of thesis abstract which is an informative text. The objectives are to discover translation of verb, to compare the syntax of Arabic and English and to analyze the method of translation used in the process. The methodology used was qualitative approach applying content analysis method of 12 abstract thesis selected as the sample of the study. The results showed that there were differences in translating verb from Arabic into English. English has a fixed word structure while Arabic has a variable word structure. The findings showed that direct translation method; literal method is used in translating the abstract of the thesis. In conclusion, the knowledge of similarities and differences between Arabic and English plays an important role in producing a precise abstract translation.
