Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has given challenges and impacts in the lives of people globally. The World Happiness Index study shows that the happiness index in Malaysia is also affected by the string of life in the new norm. Family institutions are one of the social systems that have been affected and the failure of couples to face the pressure of the pandemic has triggered an increase in the divorce rate in Malaysia. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of Covid-19 on the character of married couples and their coping strategies towards improving family well-being. This study uses a qualitative approach by applying the method of document analysis and interviews. The data was then analyzed descriptively using content analysis methods. Findings show that the Covid-19 pandemic has an impact on the character of couples either directly or indirectly. The three approaches that allow couples to face challenges throughout the pandemic and further improve family well-being are the approach of religious practice, communication and expense control.
