[OBJECTION OF TUAN TABAL (D. 1894 AD) AGAINST THE DOCTRINE OF WUJUDIAH IN HIS BOOK CHAPTER OF HOPE] BANTAHAN TUAN TABAL (M. 1894M) TERHADAP FAHAM WUJUDIAH DALAM KITAB BAB HARAP

Abstract

The doctrine of wujudiah was one of distortion that seeping through among the Muslims in Malay Archipelago during the spreading of Islam. It brought numerous intellectual conflict in this region, notably during the 17^th century between the wujudiah camp, lead by Hamzah Fansuri and Syamsuddin al-Sumaterani; and syuhudiah camp lead by Nuruddin al-Raniri and Abdul Rauf Singkel. This article will explore the rejection by of Malay ulama, Tuan Tabal in one of his books, Bab Harap (The Chapter of Hope). This is a qualitative research. The data were collected based on documentation method and further anaylyzed with content analysis and comparative methods. This article concluded that Tuan Tabal was against wujudiah doctrine and declared it as zindiq. This doctrine was dangerous to a Muslim as it blurred the relation between Allah swt and his creations.
