Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has become an epidemic in Malaysia and the world that has recorded more than 42 million cases worldwide and the death toll has exceeded 1 million people. In Malaysia, the COVID-19 outbreak has had a huge impact on the country's political, economic, social, health, and education systems. In fact, the impact also involves aspects of mental health. Following the outbreak, the Malaysian government has announced the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) to the people starting March 18, 2020. The implementation of the MCO aims to create social distancing to break the chain of epidemics. However, it has the potential to change the patterns and norms of human life to the extent that it can affect the mental and emotional health of the individuals involved, whether individuals who live alone or with their families because of psychological stress that includes fear, panic, stressed, anxious and depressed. Therefore, the objective of this study focuses on the implications of the COVID-19 outbreak and the MCO on the mental and emotional health of UniSZA students. This research method is a quantitative method that uses a descriptive and inferential analysis design. The number of samples for this study is 500 UniSZA students involving 4 UniSZA campuses. The findings of the study show that the level of mental and emotional health of UniSZA students is at a moderate level. The gender variable shows that female students experience mental and emotional health problems compared to male students. The level of mental and emotional health is also related to online learning facilities. In conclusion, the COVID 19 pandemic crisis and the MCO have a negative impact on the mental and emotional health of UniSZA students and people.
