One of the main features of the Malay political counter-hegemony is the non-Muslims dissentients with pro-Malay and Islamic government policies. But some parties see the phenomenon as a sign of the resurgence of democracy and the right to free speech. This study aims to evaluate the concept of Malay political counter-hegemony in Malaysia according to the sharia perspective. The objective of this study includes the syariah stance on the political power of the Malays in Malaysia, which is obtained through coercion and voluntary approaches, so it is said to erode the values of democracy. This qualitative study will analyse various texts of the Qur'an and al-Hadith, based on the opinions of scholars within the framework of various relevant jurisprudence methods. The findings of the study demonstrate how sharia law, which requires Muslims to hold absolute authority, runs opposite to the counter-hegemony of Malay politics. Islam recognizes the approach of using soft power and hard power to subservient of all other races.
