Social and Religious Issues in Selected Novels by Najib Mahfuz and Shahnon Ahmad

Abstract

This study aims to analyze several issues related to religious matters presented by Najib Mahfuz and Shahnon Ahmad through their imaginative creative works. For this purpose, several novels have been selected for analysis and discussion in this study. These novels include "Zuqaq al-Midaq," "Trilogy," "al-Qahirah al-Jadidah," and "al-Maraya" by Najib Mahfuz. Meanwhile, the novels "Protest," "Tunggul-tunggul gerigis," "Srengenge," "Umi," "Abang Syekhul," and "Tok Guru" represent the works of Shahnon Ahmad. This study is a qualitative study. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis using content analysis techniques. The data source used is from their selected novels. Data collection used by the researchers reflects their views on social and religious issues from their perspectives as writers and novelists. The results of the analysis conducted indicate that both authors have expressed religious-related issues through their selected works, influenced by their experiences, environments, and the societies in which they live.
