Abstract
Nowadays, the role of Islam as a spiritual and moral foundation has resulted in the true civilization of a nation. Islam is a rule that must be obeyed and practiced by the people so that the atmosphere of harmony can be maintained, cherished and symbolized to prosper the country. The formation of a community that practiced Islam, in keeping with the objective of education itself, especially in developing Rabbani minds. Nonetheless, the objective of Islamic education which encompasses the context of well-being and the integrity of the social as well as society as a whole must understand and recognize the responsibility of Islamic education teachers (GPI) in this regard. Therefore, this study is a preliminary review of GPI's role in society. This study was conducted using the library methods and data which is the source of discussion obtained through library research. The results show that GPI's reputation in the community is very significant because they are transformational agents who not only focus on the task of educating themselves but also serve as a social mobility to the public.

Abstrak
Dewasa ini, peranan Islam sebagai dasar kerohanian dan sahsiah menatijahkan nilai ketamadunan sebenar sesebuah negara. Islam adalah suatu aturan yang perlu dihayati dan diterapkan dalam kalangan masyarakat agar suasana harmoni dapat terus dipelihara, dihargai dan menjadi simbol untuk memakmurkan negara. Pembinaan sesebuah masyarakat yang mengamalkan Islam, bersinambungan dengan halatuju pendidikan itu sendiri khususnya dalam membangunkan minda Rabbani. Sungguhpun begitu, halatuju pendidikan Islam yang merangkumi konteks kesejahteraan dan keutuhan aspek sosial serta masyarakat keseluruhannya perlulah memahami dan mengiktiraf tanggungjawab guru pendidikan Islam (GPI) dalam perkara ini. Oleh sebab itu, kajian ini merupakan sorotan awal terhadap peranan GPI dalam masyarakat. Kajian ini dijalankan menggunakan kaedah deskriptif dan data yang menjadi sumber perbincangan diperolehi melalui penyelidikan kepustakaan. Hasil kajian mendapati martabat GPI dalam komuniti dilihat sangat penting kerana mereka adalah agen transformasi yang tidak hanya menfokuskan tugas mendidik semata-mata bahkan berperanan menjadi mobiliti sosial kepada khalayak ramai.
