The growth of Islamic educational institutions has seen a significant increase in recent years. This development is evidenced by the rising number of religious schools, madrasahs, tahfiz centres, and pesantren, as well as the increasing attention these institutions have received from academic researchers. Various aspects related to these institutions have been explored in line with their growing establishment. This study aims to conduct a bibliometric and visual analysis to examine publication trends based on publication years, types, affiliations, countries of prolific authors, keywords, research fields, prolific journals, citation metrics, and collaboration mapping among prolific authors related to religious schools. The study provides researchers with insights into gaps in research concerning Islamic educational institutions, equipping them with the current state of research and potential directions for future studies. To achieve these objectives, bibliometric analyses were conducted using VOSviewer and Biblioshiny from the Bibliometrix R package. A total of 572 documents from the Scopus database were analysed. The publication trend from 1928 to July 2024 indicates an upward trajectory, with 70.9% of the documents being articles. Indonesia emerged as the leading country in publications on religious schools, contributing 265 publications. The dominant keyword in these documents is "madrasah." The average citation per document is 4.90. Overall, the findings present a comprehensive overview, highlighting ample opportunities for further research in the field of religious schools, despite the substantial body of existing studies.
