Abstract

The implementation of grammar-translation method in Arabic teaching and learning process has a negative impact on student mastering the language effectively. The study is conducted to address scholars’ view on the concept and implementation of grammar- translation method in teaching and learning of second language. Hence the study also aims to enlighten perspectives on translation method in the teaching of Arabic as second language and to highlight translation method as a tool supporting the process of teaching and learning. This is a qualitative research through the method of content analysis of books, articles in proceedings, journal articles and theses. The result shows that the need of translation method in teaching and learning Arabic as second language is undeniably despite of weakness in the implementation of the method. To conclude, the implementation of translation method using various approaches can increase the effectiveness of teaching and learning Arabic as second language.
