Job Status and Domestic Violence: A Quantitative Study on Married Person in Malaysia

Abstract: Married is a love relationship between a man and a woman that based on a bond. However, there are various reports of domestic violence cases reported to the authorities. A study on domestic violence involving spouse's job status was conducted by looking at four forms of violence namely physical, emotional, economic, and sexual violence. This study was conducted using quantitative design using survey method. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires to 390 Muslim respondents who are married or have been married and live in Terengganu and Kelantan. Data were analyses through Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) version 22 and processed using inferential analysis (ANOVA). The findings found that the employment status of the respondents had a significant relationship on the forms of violence. This situation has gave an impression that it is important for all parties to evaluate the situation and develop interventions to reduce cases of domestic violence.

Abstrak: Perkahwinan merupakan hubungan cinta yang terjalin antara lelaki dan perempuan yang didasari dengan sebuah ikatan. Namun begitu, saban hari terdapat pelbagai laporan mengenai kes keganasan rumah tangga dilaporkan kepada pihak berkuasa. Satu kajian mengenai keganasan rumah tangga melibatkan pekerjaan pasangan telah dijalankan dengan melihat empat bentuk keganasan iaitu keganasan fizikal, emosi, ekonomi dan seksual. Kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk kuantitatif melalui kaedah tinjauan. Data dikumpul dengan mengedarkan soal selidik kepada 390 responden beragama islam yang berkahwin atau pernah berkahwin dan tinggal Negeri Terengganu dan Kelantan. Data dalam kajian ini dianalisis melalui perisian Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) versi 22 dan diolah menggunakan analisis berbentuk inferensi (ANOVA). Hasil dapatan mendapati bahawa status pekerjaan responden mempunyai perbezaan yang signifikan terhadap bentuk keganasan. Keadaan ini telah memberi satu gambaran bahawa adalah penting bagi semua pihak menilai situasi ini dan mengembangkan intervensi bagi mengurangkan kes keganasan rumah tangga.
