Abstract

Abstract: The issue in lack of integration of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) elements in the teaching practices of primary school Islamic Education teachers has led to the need for an understanding of the factors affecting the integration of HOTS in their teaching. This study explained the link between trust and Professional Learning Community (PLC) among groups with the integration of HOTS in the teaching of Islamic Education at the individual level. The research used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design, involving 642 Islamic Education teachers in 112 primary schools in Malaysia. The data obtained from this study analyzed using multilevel modeling by employing hierarchical linear modeling software. The findings found that PLC is a dominant predictive factor in teaching Islamic Education with integrated HOTS compared to trust. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a guide to Islamic Education teachers in the effort to integrate HOTS in their teaching and assist the administrators in sustaining PLC in schools also creating an environment of mutual trust so that the community in schools can function more productively and effectively.
