Abstract

Abstract: Volunteer organization management practices are among the key elements in the voluntary sector. Fundamentally, volunteer participation is closely associated with the management practices of an organization. Effective organizational practices can influence and retain volunteers over a longer period. However, the current inactivity among volunteers may be linked to various barriers, including inefficient organizational management. Accordingly, this study aims to examine the relationship between volunteer activeness and volunteer organization management practices such as volunteer selection practices, training and basic exposure to volunteerism, and leadership effectiveness. This study employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design. A total of 300 volunteers were selected as respondents using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analysed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis through SPSS software. The study was conducted across three East Coast states, namely Pahang, Terengganu, and Kelantan. The findings of the study indicate that there is a weak and non-significant relationship between volunteer activeness and organizational management practices, namely volunteer selection practices (r = 0.049, p > 0.05), training and basic exposure (r = 0.041, p > 0.05), and leadership effectiveness (r = 0.067, p > 0.05).This suggests that volunteer activeness is not associated with gender, organizational management practices, or barriers in volunteerism. The findings further imply that other factors such as time constraints, personal commitments, and individual motivation may play a more significant role in influencing volunteer activeness compared to management practices alone. The implications of this study highlight the need for organizations to adopt a more holistic approach in enhancing volunteer engagement by considering both internal and external factors that influence volunteers.
