Turban in the Malaysian context is a term that is synonymous with Islam and Sikhism. These two religions wear turbans as a practice that has its own purpose and philosophy. In Sikhism, wearing a turban or dastar, in the Punjab language, is compulsory and must be executed to prove their compliance and confidence in the teachings of Gurus and the scripture. Meanwhile in Islam, the turban is a clothing of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w and Muslims are encouraged to wear it. In general there are similarities between turban and dastar, but they differ in application, form, size and color.
