Kefahaman tentang Ihdad di Kalangan Wanita Muslim Bandar Dungun
Abstract
Ihdad (mourning among the widow) is a part of family matters that has been ignored by muslim society as well as their scholars. Even though the practice of ihdad concerns only the widow, yet the understanding and awareness of it is also important to married women in preparation to face their husband's death. Therefore, this article discusses the rules which relate to ihdad among muslim women as well as the understanding of the community on this matter. The article written is aimed to identify the understanding of muslim women regarding three main issues interrelated to ihdad: understanding of the hukum the period of time given, and things that are prohibited during ihdad. In collecting data, a questionnaire was distributed to 364 muslim women from Dungun, Terengganu by stratified random sampling. This constituted the sample of the study. The study has shown that the majority of the respondents understand the hukum of ihdad (54.9 percent) and the period of ihdad (53.6 percent). Nevertheless, it is ironic that percentage of those who do not understand the hukum and period of ihdad is almost the same. Meanwhile the understanding of the prohibtions is at a high level. Besides that, the results also revealed that the level of understanding is not sighnificantly related to demographic fact r, specificilally, a person's educational streaming.
