Abstract
This paper discusses the involvement of the Hidayah Center Foundation (HCF) and the contribution of Covid-19 assistance to the new Muslim converts in Sabah, particularly in the interior division of Sabah. HCF is one of the NGOs (Non-Governmental Organization) established as a support centre to carry out volunteer activities and look after the welfare for the new Muslims. As one of the religion-based NGOs (NGO-A), the HCF has long been involved in the distribution of basic necessities and their involvement has been increasingly active throughout to the Movement Control Order (PKP) of the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. This paper focuses on the involvement and contribution of HCF in improving the welfare, economy and upbringing of new converts as well as programs to clear up non-Muslim misconceptions about Islam. This effort has been carried out through the Ziarah Saudara baru program, Kupi-Kupi and economic capital assistance to the new Muslims in several areas and districts in Sabah. Data collection involved interviews with HCF leadership representatives at seven HCF branches in Sabah to explain their involvement in the activities carried out and the focus areas targeted for assistance to the new Muslims. This study is based on a descriptive analysis of interview information and review of the HCF annual report (2014-2019) as well as online activities on social media to explain the activities and contributions of HCF assistance to the new Muslims in Sabah. The study found that the efforts made by HCFs involved in the mission “Spread Islam, Assist New Muslims†has had a positive impact on individuals and families of new Muslims in facing difficulties in obtaining basic food and financial problems during MCO. The impact of the study found that the program to help new Muslims as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic is an urgent need and should be continued through the involvement of various parties. Through the noble efforts of HCF who are directly involved with the new Muslims, then their involvement in carrying out this social responsibility can improve the social well-being of the new Muslims in the interior of Sabah.
