The Study of Qur’anic Intertextuality in Selected Poems of Imam al- Shafi’i (204 A.H)

This paper is an attempt to study the influence of the Qur’an on the style and approach of Imam Shafi’i (204 AH) in Arabic poems. Shafi’i was undoubtedly one of the prominent prolific writers of classical Arabic poems during the golden age of Arabic Literature, his literary work cut across Religion, Literature, and Linguistics. Through his literary work, he displayed his indebt commitment to Qur’anic civilization, which serves as the foundation of his enormous knowledge and capacious civilization. This paper relates the inter-context of words, theory, and styles between the Qur’an and literature as shown in the poetic work of Shafi’i. The objective of the study is to apply Shafi’i poetic work on an area of modern criticism, highlight the level in which Qur’anic Civilization had influenced Shafi’i, and give an account of impute of Qur’anic lexicon in Shafi’i poems. Thus, some of the outcomes of this paper are that the poetic work of Shafi’i is branded with Qur’anic styles of word selection, theoretic adaptation, and approach to communication. The paper adopted Investigative, analytical, and descriptive research methodology.
