The Reality and Imagination in the Works of Kamil Al-Kilani: An Analysis of Adventure Story of “Sinbad the Sailor”

Adventures story is one of the stories loved and favoured by children in which full of various extraordinary events, miracles, and surprises commonly experienced by the characters in the story. Therefore, the objective of this research is intended to study the elements of reality and imaginary in an adventure-themed story to analyse the extent of the prominence of these two elements, in addition to review the effectiveness of the relationship between reality and imaginary with the culture of the local community. The importance of this research based on the elements of reality and imagination is to identify the effect and influence on the children on the mind-development and character. This research focuses on the creation produced by Kamil Al-Kilani entitled “Sinbad the Sailor,” which the author is considered the father of literature for Arabic-native speaking and focuses on producing creations for children. The research methodology used in this study are literature review and analytical study. While literature review methodology is using the creation of Kamil Al-Kilani written in Arabic language title “Sinbad the Sailor” as the main source with other research materials from secondary sources such as journals, magazines, scholarly books, and thesis; the analytical study focus on how the elements of reality and imagination are being addressed in the story and to analyse how these elements are influencing the culture of the societies. The finding of this study indicates the storyline is align for both elements, reality and imaginary. The element of imaginary is being widely utilized to create enthralling events throughout the story, while using element of reality, the author is emphasising the accuracy and without violating the culture of the society. The combinations of both elements create beautiful story and likely are to engage children’s readers in building their imaginations.
