Peaceful Coexistence among Muslims in the Poem “Wa Islamahu” by Muhammad Sheikh Ali

Islam is a religion of peace that calls for peaceful coexistence among people at all levels of life. The poet Muhammad Sheikh Ali observed the lack of peaceful coexistence among Muslims in Nigeria and he was touched at this phenomenon and his passion aroused. On the sensitive issues that led to this heinous phenomenon, explaining and diagnosing decisive solutions. This article seeks to study his poem "Wa Islamah" known as “O Islam” to analyze this phenomenon and his views and proposals for decisive solutions. The researcher employed the historical method to achieve the historical facts that were related to this work, and he also used the descriptive method to describe those stylistic phenomena and artistic characteristics present in the poem, with a focus on describing that phenomenon itself without being influenced by other factors, because this method is the only one that helps in identifying problems. The research explains it clearly so that the paper can answer the following questions: Who is Muhammad Sheikh Ali? Did he deal with peaceful coexistence in his literary production? What is meant by peaceful coexistence? What are the reasons for the lack of peaceful coexistence in Nigeria? What are the forms of peaceful coexistence found in his poems? In the end, the article reached conclusions, the most important of which is that, Muhammad Sheikh Ali was a living example in his Islamic thoughts, religious opinions, reformist stances, and advocacy mission, until these ideas found popularity among Muslim readers and listeners, the advancement and progress of any society in emulating what God Almighty has legislated, explained by the purified Sunnah and that the ignorance is a fundamental cause of disagreement and conflict between Muslims in Nigeria. He referred to the interest in educating young people to overlook the differences in the branches that do not affect the Islamic constants.
